About Us
Women’s International Support Organization (WISO) Inua Mama is a non-profit organization formed to support survivors of gender-based discrimination, abuse, and violence. WISO recognizes that societal social structures of discrimination deny many, especially women, freedoms, and educational opportunities. Some social practices cause severe reproductive health issues, and economic hardships which make it hard for them to live good lives.
Some of our clients have been exposed to devastating practices such as domestic violence, sexual assault, female genital cutting, HIV/AIDS, and child marriage, to mention but a few. Some culture treats widowed women as outcasts, which leaves them vulnerable to protection, with no shelter and enough to feed themselves. WISO’s mission is motivated by compassion to support these women one at a time, to survive on the margins they find their lives.
WISO offers an opportunity to listen, empathize, educate, and identify resources to support those in vulnerable situations. Our initiatives involve empowering and supporting survivors to find a way to confront their specific situations. We help women fund projects that can help improve their lives, start a fresh life out of a depressing situation, provide scholarships to vulnerable girl children who otherwise would not access education, help pay the medical expenses of those involved in sexual assault, and such. We invite those who share our vision and compassion to support us financially or otherwise as we uplift, mentor, and support one life at a time to empower against gender discrimination.
